About Therapy
A Compassionate and Shame-Free Space
From the start of her career in 2007, Sameera has creatively addressed gaps for Muslim mental, sexual, and spiritual health. Sameera deeply understands the complexity and sensitivity of issues that many of us face with our sexual health, and how this cannot be addressed without the Islamic tradition and our worldview as Muslims. Her online therapy space is ideal for those seeking practical guidance and compassionate support in a holistic way.

Interested in Therapy with Sameera? Please review the following steps.
-
Scroll down to complete the brief form to show your interest in working with Sameera for therapy. Please note that completing this form doesn't guarantee that you'll be accepted as a new client.
-
If your interest in therapy sessions matches Sameera's expertise and availability, she'll send you an initial questionnaire form to complete. This provides Sameera with some context about your current situation, your goals for therapy, and your needs.
-
If Sameera determines that your initial questionnaire form matches her expertise, approach, and availability, you'll complete a 15-minute Zoom consultation together. This allows any logistical questions to be addressed, and to get to know each other before starting therapy sessions.
If your needs and availability don't quite match, Sameera will refer you to other therapists and/or resources.
-
Therapy sessions will start after the initial Zoom consultation meeting. The frequency will be determined together during sessions. Clients are expected to hold themselves accountable to complete inner and outer work between sessions. Therapy is a collaborative process between Sameera and the client.
★★★★★
“Sameera's calm demeanor and ability to intently listen allow one to open old and sometimes deep wounds to identify the root cause of coping mechanisms and behaviors that may have directly and indirectly impacted my choices in life. The tools she shares are practical and not at all overwhelming.”

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
What topics can I see you for? Just sexual health?
Any and all topics related to sexual, mental, physical, and/or spiritual health! No part of us is separate, and I approach issues in therapy from a holistic perspective. If something is beyond my expertise, I will let you know during the intake process.
What populations and ages do you work with?
I work with Muslim and occasionally, non-Muslim clients/adults! I also have expertise in children and youth, and in my current practice, support parents and families. While the majority of my clients are Muslims, I have always also worked in non-Muslim spaces at the same time. I welcome all those looking for a mind, body, soul, and spirit approach!
Do you accept insurance? Do you provide invoices?
No, I currently do not accept insurance. I see clients from around the world, and take credit cards for payment. For those who live in the United States, you can use your HSA/FSA cards for session payments. I can provide an invoice - just ask and I’ll send one!
What if I just have one question? Can we just chat quickly?
Rarely is it just “one question” given the additional context or information I will need to provide you with individualized support. I offer so much information and resources on social media for free - so if you have a question, I’d recommend starting there and then requesting a therapy session, if needed.
How many sessions will I need with you? And how often?
There is no way to know this or plan it out! Ideally, once you start therapy, you’ll want to keep attending sessions - this helps with support, accountability, and the inner work you’ll be doing. We will discuss the plan together in session and revisit this frequently.
What is your educational and professional background?
I have a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Calgary; a Masters’ degree in Occupational Therapy from Tufts University; and a post-graduate diploma in Islamic Psychology from Cambridge Muslim College. I have 15 years of professional experience within Muslim spaces, in Canada, the US, and internationally through my online practice. I’m also a registered yoga teacher and continue to take professional development courses related to my work.
